About The Webinar

As the title of this talk indicates, we will focus on the study of metabolic diseases and poisonings that can alter the functioning of the peripheral nervous system. Unlike the central nervous system, more protected by the blood-brain barrier, the peripheral nervous system (nerve root, spinal nerve, peripheral nerve, neuromuscular junction and muscle) is more exposed to the presence of harmful substances. Although the symptomatology, course, location and severity depend on the disease – organophosphate poisoning and hyperadrenocorticism myopathy present differently, for example – one of the common characteristics in these cases is the clinical distribution: in the vast majority, the clinical signs will occur bilaterally and symmetrically. With the exception of some neurodegenerative diseases, this presentation is practically exclusive to these two groups of diseases, which will help us distinguish them and propose them as our most likely differential diagnosis.
