An open fracture is one of the few orthopedic emergencies in veterinary medicine. Proper immediate handling of the affected limb is very important for the ultimate success of wound and fracture healing. Special treatment considerations for animals with open fractures will be discussed ranging from emergency handling to wound and bandage care.
