About The Webinar

Intervertebral disc disease is a common cause of weakness, paralysis and recurrent back pain in canine patients. The treatment options depend on the type of disc disease, the vertebral location of the herniated disc, the duration of the disease, the clinical signs and the financial situation of the owner. Acute disc disease can be an emergency situation if it causes loss of motor function and especially if there is loss of nociception requiring immediate surgical decompression in most situations. Other presentations of disc disease can be managed conservatively if the owner wishes but the type of medical management and the prognosis should be considered carefully. This presentation will review the typical pathophysiology and clinical presentations of disc disease in the dog. The medical and surgical options with their associated prognoses will be presented.
