Corticosteroids are powerful anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive medications used on a frequent daily basis in veterinary medicine. Their benefits and associated side effects have been well documented. This webinar will focus on the use of these drugs for the treatment of neurological diseases on an acute an chronic basis. Professor Simon Platt will also discuss the benefits and appropriate dosing of steroids in central nervous system inflammation such as granulomatous meningoencephalitis, in central nervous system tumor treatment and intervertebral disc disease. The controversy surrounding the use of steroids for head and spinal trauma and acute intervertebral disc extrusion will also be addressed.
