About The Webinar

Compulsions are repetitive and ritualistic behaviours that do not have a role in normal function and that interfere with everyday activity. They generally arise as an animal’s way of alleviating emotional distress. However, this type of behaviour spans the veterinary and behaviour modification disciplines as it can also arise due to physical pathology, and some cases of a purely behavioural origin may require prescription medication to facilitate behaviour modification.

This webinar aims to provide the general practice veterinary surgeon with an insight into the aetiology, diagnosis and treatment of repetitive behaviour in dogs. It will include discussion of the common types of compulsive behaviour seen, the causes for it, the key indicators that it is outside the range of typical behaviour and the medical differentials that need to be considered before referral. It will also outline the modes of treatment typically used to address the behaviour and the role of prescription medication in supporting these.
