About The Webinar

Blood gas analysis and subsequently acid-base balance can be intimidating to those with limited knowledge of how to read results. However, understanding what the results mean will assist the nurse in better understanding the illness, as well as being able to appropriately administer treatment and understand the limitations of some conditions. This webinar will address the difference between acidotic and alkalotic states, as well as both respiratory and metabolic acidosis and alkalosis. Buffer systems will be discussed in-depth, addressing the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation and the way in which the body compensates for the imbalance in this equation. Discussion of various conditions, clinical symptoms and clinical examples will be used to cement this knowledge, enabling the veterinary nurse to use blood gas analysis in practice confidently.
