About The Webinar

In this webinar, Dan will discuss 5 mistakes we can commonly make, but easily avoid in our intoxicated patients. He will discuss in detail the types and nature of toxins that we tend to commonly see in UK clinical practice, the essential practice of assuming the ‘maximum possible dose’ when considering all exposed patients and the underlying principle of always treating the patient in front of you, and the clinical signs it is showing. The importance and methods of decontamination are outlined, together with what not to do with certain toxin exposures. Finally, the role of antidotes is explored, including an insight into the modern application of lipid emulsion as an agent to reduce the effects of neuro- and cardio-toxic compounds; advice is also given on what to stock in a practice ‘tox box’ and how to source advice and medications to assist with some of the less common, but serious, intoxications.
