About The Webinar

Not every sick entire bitch is a pyo! Many emergencies present with very non-specific clinical signs (collapse, vomiting, seizures, dyspnoea), and physical examination alone may not provide all the answers. Some basic laboratory data is therefore invaluable as part of the process of assessment & stabilisation, whether it be managing anaemia, hyperkalaemia or simply choosing appropriate fluid therapy. Necessary tests can be performed easily & rapidly with minimal sample size, and may in some instances provide a definitive diagnosis. This webinar will discuss selection of the necessary tests, some aspects of underlying physiology and their interpretation in context. Parameters to be discussed include PCV & total solids, glucose, urea, lactate, electrolytes & essential urinalysis. Case examples will be used to illustrate key points and highlight the importance of testing in cases that present with acute severe systemic signs.
