About The Webinar

Gastric Bloat is a life threatening condition in rabbits that results in dilation and distension of the stomach, caused by an obstruction of outflow. A build-up of gas, liquid and ingesta can rapidly lead to pain, metabolic disturbances and compromised respiration due to diaphragmatic pressure. Prompt identification of cases and stabilization with medical therapy is vital if cases are to be managed successfully. Where medical management does not resolve the issue, surgical intervention is indicated, once the rabbit is stabilized.
This webinar looks at identification of gastric bloat cases, with discussion of important diagnostic tests and appropriate medical supportive therapy. Although each gastric bloat case is individual, time will be spent discussing when a case should be considered a surgical emergency, and techniques to achieve successful surgical outcomes.
