About The Webinar

This webinar is focused on the postoperative management and complications of dogs and cats that had had and external skeletal fixator placed. External skeletal fixation is a versatile and more affordable stabilization technique, which makes it commonly used in small animal orthopaedics. It also has multiple applications, not only fracture stabilization, such as joint immobilization or limb deformity correction. However, generally it has a higher morbidity than internal fixation, so it is essential that some principles are followed when this system is used. An adequate postoperative management of external skeletal fixators can help decreasing the risk of complications we may encounter. During this hour we will briefly cover the principles of ESF placement, as well as the recommended postoperative management of these frames. This lecture will also include potential complications the clinician may encounter, and their management.
