Pain management in rabbits has improved greatly during the last twenty years. When pain is not treated adequately, it can be a very debilitating experience for the animal that suffers it. It is paramount to be up to date on how to assess pain in rabbits and what pain assessment tools are available these days. The knowledge of common painful conditions and available analgesic drugs also help to ameliorate pain where possible.
The objective of this lecture is to provide an overview of pain recognition and amelioration in rabbits. It aims at developing a more accurate understanding of this topic, discussing the areas that have advanced in recent years and those that still require further research.
