The lecture examines the causes of acute renal failure, diagnosis and treatment and the importance of the nursing role for the successful outcome for the patient.
The nursing role includes close monitoring of the critically ill patient with particular attention paid to hydration status, urine output. The placement and maintenance of urinary catheters with closed systems is discussed and the important of maintenance of intravenous access for both fluid therapy and intravenous medication. The importance of good communication within the clinical team is also discussed and methods by which this can be achieved.
