About The Webinar

Respiratory tract disease is a common health problem in many pet rodent species. Rats, mice and guinea pigs are more frequently affected. Respiratory tract infections seem to be less commonly encountered in other species such as chinchillas and hamsters. Because rats and other small rodents are very popular animals used in biomedical research, there is an extensive amount of available information on respiratory tract diseases, largely gathered in laboratory settings. However, many of these species are now becoming more and more popular as pets. Practitioners are therefore more frequently called to deal with such species and their specific diseases. Clinical diagnosis, treatment and preventive measures in the pet field, rather than in the laboratory field, are an emerging but often confusing challenge for many veterinarians.
Inadequate housing and the inappropriate environmental conditions in which often these animals are kept can also play an important role in predisposing to respiratory disease. This webinar will discuss the main clinical findings, diagnostic work-up and therapeutic approach applicable to many common rodent species seen in practice.
