About The Webinar

This webinar is focused on the initial management of dogs and cats after a traumatic accident. Although orthopaedic traumatic injuries are generally not life threatening, it is important they are assessed and managed early in order to provide adequate analgesia, prevent further tissue damage and infection, and allow an educated discussion with the client about options and prognosis. During this hour we will cover the initial asessment of trauma patients, especially the orthopaedic evaluation and investigation, as well as the initial management of pain and temporary stabilization of fractures. This lecture will also include the types of fractures the clinician may encounter, open vs. closed, and their initial management, together with other traumatic injuries (i.e. luxations) and when treatment is recommended. Management of wounds, types and parts of dressings and bandages, and antimicrobial and analgesic management of trauma patients with open wounds will also be discussed in this webinar.
