About The Webinar

Acute head trauma can be an overwhelming and potentially life-threatening neurological emergency. Although death can occur as a consequence of increased intracranial pressure, dogs and cats can have remarkable recoveries if appropriate treatment is initiated promptly. It is therefore important to stay calm and follow a rational approach. In this lecture we will start with discussing the basic pathophysiology of head trauma, which is important to understand the potential progression of clinical signs and recognise aims of treatment. Subsequently we will discuss how to obtain a prognosis, which will help you to differentiate between patients that will likely benefit from treatment and those that will unfortunately not improve despite your best efforts. Finally, we will discuss a step-by-step approach on how to treat dogs and cats with acute head trauma. You might be surprised how assessment and successful treatment of acute head trauma is perfectly possible in practice.
