About The Webinar

Immune mediated thrombocytopenia (ITP) is a relatively common disease in dogs but much rarer in cats. When cases present bleeding the pressure is on the clinician to make a diagnosis and start effective treatment as there is a risk that the patient will bleed out. Differentiating primary from secondary ITP is difficult as there is no definitive test available for primary disease. As a result treatment may need to be started before a diagnosis has been reached.

This webinar will focus on current best practice in -
Achieving a working and definitive diagnosis.
Looking for platelets on an in-house stained smear.

Emergency treatment
When to start glucocorticoid and other immunosuppressive treatments?
What to do if an underlying cause is found and treatment has been started?

Long term management and monitoring.
How often should cases be monitored?
How to de-stage treatment.
Which other immunosuppressive agents can be used and what are their risks?
