About The Webinar
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a rapid reduction in renal function that may be due to a variety of causes broadly classified as pre-renal, renal and post-renal. Intrinsic renal causes include toxins, including nephrotoxic drugs, as well as infections. In this webinar we will consider the causes, pathogenesis (initiation, extension, maintenance, recovery), clinical presentation findings and diagnosis of AKI. We will then look at a rational approach to the treatment of these patients clarifying the role of intravenous fluid therapy and diuretics and mentioning a variety of the other indicated supportive therapies. Indications for considering renal replacement therapy or euthanasia will also be discussed.
