About The Webinar

Though open fractures may be relatively uncommon even in an emergency case load, the correct early assessment and management of open fractures is considered critical for uneventful healing. The value of the classification systems used for open fractures will be explained, and the most commonly used system will be presented with case examples. Rational antimicrobial usage will be discussed alongside measures that should be employed to minimise the risk of a hospital-acquired infection. The gold standard initial wound management will be presented followed by a brief discussion of the principles and pitfalls of definitive fracture stabilisation. This webinar hopes to provide a practical guide to how to get it right in one of the most challenging fracture types seen in small animal practice.
