About The Webinar
Continuous advances in veterinary medicine have resulted in an increased life expectancy of our pets. The population of geriatric pets and age-associated health conditions has therefore also increased. Cognitive dysfunction syndrome is characterised by progressive altered mentation and dementia in older and geriatric patients. It is sometimes considered the veterinary analogue of human Alzheimer’s disease and has therefore been the topic of intense research. The early stages of cognitive dysfunction syndrome are often misdiagnosed as ‘normal ageing’. This is a missed opportunity because a good response to treatment can be achieved when treatment is started in the early phase of this condition. During this session, we will therefore emphasise why early detection is both challenging and important. We will further discuss some clinically important differences between cognitive dysfunction syndrome in dogs and cats.
