About The Webinar
Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a form of canine acquired heart disease that typically affects large and giant breeds of dog. DCM develops gradually, often over a period of years, before symptoms of congestive heart failure develop. This early, symptom-free stage of the disease, known as the preclinical phase, has recently received much attention as a key disease stage for therapeutic intervention. However, this highlights the importance of correct diagnosis of preclinical DCM, which unfortunately is not always straightforward.
At the end of this session, attendees should expect to:
• Be aware of the published clinical trial evidence to support medical treatment in preclinical DCM in Dobermanns and Irish Wolfhounds
• Be aware of ongoing studies evaluating the important question of treatment benefit in other breeds with preclinical DCM
• Be aware of the updated guidelines for diagnosis of preclinical DCM in the Dobermann
• Be aware of the breed variations in heart size that can potentially confuse the diagnosis of preclinical DCM
