Blood transfusions are now widely done in both referral hospitals and in private practice. In this webinar I will try and guide you through the process, from the blood typing and cross matching, to the monitoring and care for a patient having a blood transfusion. I have experience with blood donation of dogs and cats and will talk about what makes a good donor and how to go about taking a donation safely and aseptically. There are several different blood products available and I will discuss which product is appropriate for a patient, with a case based discussion. Lastly I will go through the different transfusion reactions that can occur, and how to prevent and/or treat them when they happen.
