About The Webinar

In recent years, the popularity of pet chickens has greatly increased. As a result, there is a notable rise in the numbers being seen by the veterinary profession. It is now expected that general practitioners should be confident examining, diagnosing and treating the common problems encountered by this species. Chickens make very entertaining and interactive pets. While some birds are kept with the purpose of egg production, a lot remain solely as pets.

The purpose of this webinar is to discuss the clinical examination of the chicken, the important questions to ask when taking a history from the owner and an overview of diagnostic tests that can be performed readily in general practice. A step-by-step guide to the consultation will be discussed. Diagnostic tests include obtaining a blood sample, performing a crop wash, testing a faecal sample for parasites, positioning for radiography and performing ultrasonography of the coelomic cavity.
