About The Webinar

Geriatric patients present specific anaesthetic concerns and it is important to understand the physiological changes that occur with age, and how these affect the anaesthetised patient. Older patients are also likely to have concurrent disease and this increases the anaesthetic risk.
Changes to the various body systems that occur with advancing age are explained in this webinar. As pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics are also altered in geriatric patients, there will be a short section on the various drugs that are commonly used and those that should be avoided in old age.
Perianaesthetic nursing considerations for the geriatric patient are so important as these patients suffer from more emergence delirium than any other patient and the veterinary nurse can do much to help make the anaesthetic period as smooth and stress-free as possible.
