About The Webinar

This session will give you a user-friendly update on which genetic tests to use, which to avoid and how they should be used to inform clinical practice and breeding decisions. After a brief refresher on how genetic variation leads to disease, I will review the different kinds of genetic tests out there (including direct-to-owner tests) and give guidance on how to choose and interpret them. We will discuss estimated breeding values as a tool for reducing the incidence of complex traits such as hip dysplasia and other Kennel Club schemes. We will conclude with ‘horizon scanning’ considering how increasing understanding of the genetic basis of many conditions in pets might be used for clinical benefit in future.
